Postcard Save The Date

Monday, January 30th, 2012

Want to improve attendance at your next event? Save the date postcards are the first step. Typically sent before the official invitation, and within 4-6 months prior to the actual date, they provide the perfect opportunity to build buzz and gain awareness. These postcards answer the following questions:

Time, Date, Location Reason for attendance Appropriate attire Contact information To stand out, get creative with your postcard printing and postcard design. Keep these postcard design tips in mind:

Die-cut patterns – Think of ways to incorporate shapes that relate to your event. Bells for wedding, wine glass for wine tasting, toothbrush for a dentist, hammer for a chiropractor (as a joke of course), lawn mower for a landscaping company, flower for a spa or salon, etc. Don’t be afraid to be different or to get laughed at by the competition. After all, you’ll be the one laughing your way to the bank from all the business you’ll be getting.

Imagery – Use images that relate to the event as a backdrop. For a wedding, use pictures of the couple; product launch use high quality pictures of the product; a new salon in town should show off their trendy new facilities; restaurants should show a beautiful photo of their elegant new restaurant; nightclubs should show action shots of beautiful people having fun at their club; dentist can show off their clean modern facilities; artists hosting a gallery opening can show an image of their best piece. Options are endless and you can really sell your event with high quality photographs and imagery.

Easy Flow – The easier to read the more conveniently your guests can skim the card, and add to their calendar. Don’t clutter the card with cryptic information and too many dates. Just keep it right to the point and print the event date and time in a simple and clear manner. Don’t use fancy text for this, it’s annoying to try to figure out if that’s a 6 or a 2. Also it’s a good practice to give the Date and Time text a specific area that is clearly separated from the rest of the card.

Print your save the date postcards on a thick 14 pt paper to ensure added durability. Many times, printers themselves will print out and mail the save the date postcards for you. Simply send them the design with a list of contacts and they will take care of the rest. Ask your printer about what they can and cannot offer.Image Source: http://images.google.com
