Throughout my career in the direct marketing business, I’ve often been asked, “What’s the best postcard marketing strategy ever?” People are always looking for the new twist, the latest cutting edge strategy that pulls in profit in postcard advertising.
While there isn’t such a thing as “the best postcard marketing strategy ever”, I believe that these strategies I’m about to reveal to you is the best strategies that have worked for me time and time again. They are among the fundamentals and part of a big puzzle that makes postcard marketing work.
1. Apply Frequency In Postcard Advertising.
This principle is so simple but often overlooked by most inexperienced marketers. The often expect huge results from there first postcard mailing, and when they don’t, they give up.
The best way I’ve used in explaining this powerful strategy is to ask a question. If you are married or know someone who is married, “How many times did you speak to your wife before she agreed to you hand in marriage?”
It takes continues communication to establish a relationship of trust. It takes more than one conversation to get a date, and more to get a stranger to honour your invitation to a Church service or a family dinner.
The more you send quality rich content postcards to your prospects, the better your relationship will be. The stronger your relationship, the more likely they will buy from you. People only buy from someone they know and trust. So increase your postcard mailing frequency.
2. Never Sell during Postcard Advertising.
This is one big mistake most beginners make with there postcards. They try to sell their primary product, sometimes expensive products with just a 4 by 6 postcard.
I don’t know about you, but I’ll defiantly find it hard to hand over my credit card details over a product I hardly got enough information about.
The problem here is that postcards are too small to give enough information and pitching about a product. Even when you do, your text will be so small for it to fit into the postcard. Prospects will have to use a microscope to read your text.
The key idea is to use your postcards to create curiosity and not to sell. Again use your postcards to sell curiosity and never sell your primary product.
So how do you do this? Well, I’ll tell you how I do it. First I use my postcards to create curiosity for my free CD, using just short straight to the point copy on the postcard. I then point them to my website to grab the CD and read a sales letter for my primary product. Get it?
My postcards sell curiosity, while my website sell the product. Simple.
3. Use white space during Postcard Advertising
Never fall into the temptation of filling your postcards with too much text. Take advantage of having some white space on your postcard. This makes your postcard neat and tidy. It makes it easy for your prospects to read your copy and get them to read your call to action. People are lazy to read. Too much text confuses them and makes your postcard look like a text book.
In summary, mail out more frequently so that prospects with gets to know you and establish trust. Never expect a stranger from a mailing list to hand over his credit card details just because you offer a great product. Date first before you marry.
Second, never sell your primary product with postcards. Use your postcards to sell curiosity, then use your website, free recorded call or any other source to sell your primary product.
Finally, use white space on your postcard. Avoid filling it up with too much text. So here you go, my 3 best postcard marketing strategy.Image Source: http://images.google.com
