Sending postcards to the various casting directors, producers and directors is the smart thing to do for any actor. As an actor you wear many hats as one time. You spend you time perfecting your craft through various courses of study. And attend auditions for acting whenever they come along.

But don’t forget that marketing yourself is a major part of acting. In order to get the attention you deserve and the auditions for acting you need to get your picture and name out there. Besides your 8 x 10 headshot and resume one of the most powerful and effective marketing tools available to you as an actor is the postcard. It is one of the simplest and extremely cost effective ways of getting your face and name in front of casting directors and industry professionals alike.

Sending postcards on a regular basis to the major industry professionals such as casting directors, producers and directors is a good way for you to be seen. People tend to glance at a postcard more frequently than they would if they have to stop and open a letter that contains your resume and headshot. Postcards are a quicker way for you to get noticed by the right industry people.

Make sure you do some research before sending your postcards to the various casting directors, producers and directors. One good idea is to check out the end credits on the different television shows that are currently in production. Industry trade magazines will also list shows in production at certain times of the year. Always a good reference to utilize for you as an actor. You can send your postcards to those casting directors for possible guest starting roles on the various television shows. And sometimes if they like you real well you might end up with a reoccurring role. Or perhaps even coming on board as a new character.

For you as an actor it’s all about auditions for acting. And auditions are what you need to get the jobs. The more auditions you have the more the parts will come your way. And with more auditions comes the fact that more casting directors will get to know you and who you are.

Having a talent agent working with you to get the auditions for acting is helpful but you can’t rely completely on them. To move your career into high gear and steer it in the direction you want it to go you must do some of the legwork and marketing yourself.
