Postcards have been around for generations, giving a glimpse of life at the beach, or some other tourist location as a way of marking where you’ve been in life. Businesses have found the value of postcards by using them to reach out to their customers and potential clients with information, pictures about their products and even as humorous attention getters to cause people to think of them or their products at some point in time in the future. But what does that actually mean a postcard is?
Just turn over a postcard and see how it makes perfect sense to use them as invitations. It can be an invitation to try a new product, a chance to win a prize by visiting a booth or business location, or a reminder of an appointment. The overall intent of a postcard seems to be as an invitation. So how do we get the most out of our invitations?
First off, think of what you want an invitation to say. What you’re being invited to is the main function of a postcard. From invitations to events at large arenas to scheduled office visits or trying out a new product, postcards are the perfect solution. Having that reason stand out, either on the “show” side or as the banner for the information side, letting people know what they’re being invited to is of primary importance.
Next is the when. If you are using the postcard as a literal invitation, this would mean the need to provide a date and time when the event is to take place. While not as formal as a full blown invitation card with RSVP notes and other trappings, a postcard makes a very effective way to set a time and date as well as the location for an event.
If a specific time in not available such as a chance to try out a new product, postcards can still be a great way to get information about the product to the customer. This kind of encouragement enables the customer to still have that “event” type of presentation to them, and also have the open-ended time-frame that allows them to choose when to take advantage of your products or services.
Postcards have quite a lot of value as an invitation. Using postcards to reach out to potential clients or customers you haven’t seen in a while can be quick and easy. Take advantage of postcards for your invitation needs today.Image Source: http://images.google.com

I have mentioned before, and perhaps you’ve heard other people saying as well, that you should make use templates whenever possible in order to speed up the process of sending out your postcard printing jobs.
Given that the average direct mailing campaign is likely to take place over a long period of time, and you never send just one batch of postcards out, this means you are going to need to be constantly creating and designing new postcards. If you approach each set of postcards as individual things than you might end up spending more time or attention on them than you really need to, and this will waste your resources.
However, by using postcard templates instead, you save time on designing, and you can get more from a few initial templates. Over all this can help to streamline the process of your direct mailing and give you more time to focus on other things.
What goes into a good template though? What aspects of the postcard do you need to design and what are you going to be able to change each time you need to come up with a new postcards?
Simply put a template is going to cover the basic layout of the postcard. If you pick up any postcard that has already been done you will notice the areas where images and text are, and if you really think about it, you can almost see the boxes that originally represented these on the template.
This is how most templates are going to look. You will have a few boxes that are going to contain various pieces of information, and you will have the area where your contact information or other details about your company are. Some templates will have a set spot for this information and always have the company name in one specific spot.
The plus to doing this is that you can add a certain amount of uniformity to your postcards, which helps a person immediately identify the postcard as one of yours.
A good template is going to lend itself well to multiple different types of postcards. You have the various boxes in place, but you can put almost anything in them.
Bad templates, or at least ones not meant for repeated use, are the ones that are very specific for the designs you plan on using. You almost need an image in one specific spot, or you need to blend the images and the text in a specific way, and doing anything else will cause you problems. These will not work well for repeated use because all of your postcards will begin to look the same.
Rather a good template allows you to vary where images and words go so that you can make multiple postcards from the same template and no one will ever realize it.Image Source: http://images.google.com

Sometimes just sending the average postcard doesn’t quite cut it. You want to be a bit more inventive and a bit more outrageous so everyone knows exactly who YOU are and what you stand for. You can do this with postcards. You just need to be a little creative about it. Here’s 12 ways to start right now:
Choose any name and address in the phone book and send a beautiful postcard to them with friendly greetings from wherever you happen to be at the time. Turn any one of your photos into a postcard and send it to everyone in your address book. Send a Christmas or birthday greetings card to people you know even if it’s not Christmas or no one is having a birthday. Send a postcard to yourself when you’re overseas or in a new state or location – just to see how the people around you will react when they see who it is from. Send a postcard to yourself just because it has a great photo on it, a particularly impressive design, or a terrific stamp you’d like to collect. Send a postcard with a quality picture of what you want on it (new Porsche 911 for example) to your family and friends with words suggesting this is what I want. Send a postcard to all your business associates with a beautiful tropical beach photo on it with the words ‘wish you were here’ (even though you may not be!) Post a ‘I love you’ romantic styled postcard to your girlfriend or boyfriend (wife or husband if that’s the case). Post an over-sized postcard with a powerful photo on it to your mates (or girlfriends) telling them what you’re up to this time. Leave your favourite postcard wherever you go and in every hotel, home or resort you stay in, as a friendly goodbye gift. Print up a postcard of yourself (make sure it’s flattering) and send it to your friends for a friendly and lighthearted moment. Take (or find) a really funny photo, stick it on a postcard and mail it to everyone in your address book. (Make sure it’s appropriately funny though!)Well there’s 12 ways to get really creative with postcards. Choose the approach you like best and experiment with it. No matter which way you go about it, people are always going to appreciate the effort you make to keep in touch with them – even if it is a little on the weird side now and then!Image Source: http://images.google.com

Postcards are less expensive than any other kinds of media out there. What’s more, it is considered “flexible” as this can be shared from families to friends to office mates and the likes.
If you’re falling short of ideas for postcard designs, then, worry no more. Here are twelve brilliant concepts for a budding freelance designer like you.
Play with Shape.
Majority of postcards come in rectangles. How can you stand out from the rest? If you design your postcard in an innovative shape, it will get the attention you need from your potential customers. Try to consider first your work and your theme. If you’re a graphic designer promoting wildlife causes, try changing the shape of your postcard to that of a cartoon-like puffer fish. If you’re a cake designer, transform the usual postcard look into a shape of a cake!
Cartoon vectors.
Cartoon vector monsters, dinosaurs, candies and cakes are simply adorable. It just has this “wow” factor with kids and teens that make them want to collect them. It is what simply they consider a cool art nowadays.
Going Science fiction.
What’s intriguing about Sci-fi is that it deals with alternative and innovative imagination or possibilities with elements within the realm of Science. Concepts can range from time traveling, cyberpunk, steampunk, space operas, super human beings and more.
Popping out with Pop Art.
Popular arts feature any well-known people, events or things that is once recognizable to the public. It can be a good concept if it is within your field because the colors, text, and images used by the art type are strong and vibrant, creating physiological reactions from your target audience.
Artwork line up in your postcard design.
Lining up your good artworks or projects will let your customers see how you done your job and what type of artistry you’re executing. They will notice how skilled or proficient you are with your craft.
Typography.
Contemporary typography is a strong strategy to gain the attention of your target market. Its artistry is simply mind-boggling.
Minimalist.
Simplicity is sometimes better.
Create strong messages.
Strong messages create needs and let people act in urgency. Provide why customers need your services.
Pure text with the emphasis on fonts and color.
Fonts and colors send off a certain aura or atmosphere to a postcard. Know what you want to “brand” yourself first before working on the concept. With this style, you can also create taglines or quotes to play with. For example, “I want gloves, what of you?” Color the words “want”, “what”, “of” and the letters g and s with a different hue. The words “I love you” will show up, and you can color it with a different hue so that the words will stand out.
Unique photo manipulation.
Photo manipulation is the merging or editing of pictures to form one picture, resulting to that of an illusion or deception. Photomanipulation may be a total head turner, but is often tricky. It needs skill and a whole lot of imagination. If you could pull it off, traffic will generate in your doorstep.
Making special promotions.
Why not turn your postcard into some kind of coupon? This is a great marketing strategy when you are a budding designer. When they are satisfied with the service they receive, they will recommend you to their friends.
Innovative interactive postcard design.
This refers to postcards where your target market can “interact”. Let your audience draw, color or answer funny questions. This way, it creates branding and allows your targeted persons identify you.Image Source: http://images.google.com

One of the best and most cost-effective marketing tools you can use today would be direct mail postcards or marketing postcards. However, once you decide to make use of postcards as a part of your business marketing strategy, you should make sure that they would have a design that can properly represent your company and effectively advertise and promote the products and services you have. Read on to learn more about three ways on how you can improve the design of the marketing postcards you would be using.
First off, you need to create a design or layout which would look both clean and professional. Make sure that all the visual qualities of your postcard design such as the colors, fonts and images would come together and create an overall look that would not just be appealing to your target market but would also help them in understanding the message that you have for them and the products and services that they can avail of through your company.
You should also make sure that you would be including all the important information in the postcards that you would be having printed. If you are using your postcards to introduce a new product or announce a special offer you have, make sure to include all the important details that your potential clients should know before making a decision to buy it or to avail of it. You should also make it a point that the information would be clearly outlined so that they can be easily understood.
It is also imperative that when you design your postcard, you would be adding features to it which would make the reader act now. When you design marketing postcards, keep in mind that coming up with a good design and layout and including important information are not enough; you should be able to effectively persuade the reader or your target client to do exactly what you want them to do now.
For instance, if you have a sale on some of your new products, instead of just providing information about the new products you have, it would be good to add a special offer that your reader would find hard to resist. An example would be an additional discount or free shipping if they buy now. By doing this, you would be giving your readers a reason to purchase now or avail of your services right away just so that they can take advantage of the special offer you have. As a result, you would be able to generate higher sales, which would probably the main reason why you printed out postcards in the first place.Image Source: http://images.google.com
